The Most Reverend John W.  Flesey, STD

 

 

Most Reverend John W. Flesey is a Jersey City native.  He graduated from Saint Peter's College in 1964.  He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1969 for service in the Archdiocese of Newark.  That same year he received an STB degree from Catholic University after attending Immaculate Conception Seminary.

 

            From 1969 to 1983, he was assigned as an Associate Pastor to St. Bernard’s Church, Plainfield, NJ.  While there, he completed an M.A. in pastoral counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York.   

 

            In 1983, Bishop Flesey was sent to Rome to study in the area of Spiritual Theology.  In 1985, he received the STL Degree from Gregorian University.  In 1988, he was assigned to the faculty of the Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University. 

 

            In 1990, Bishop Flesey completed his doctoral studies and received the STD Degree from the University of Saint Thomas, Rome.  In July of 1995, he was named Rector and Dean of Immaculate Conception Seminary.  In December 1996, he was elevated to the rank of Prelate of Honor.    

 

On May 5, 2004, Archbishop Myers named Bishop Flesey Pastor of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.  On August 4, 2004, Archbishop Myers ordained Bishop Flesey to the Episcopacy and assigned him as the Regional Bishop of Bergen County.
