Aware of the growing need, the Archdiocese of Newark moved to establish a Catholic Church in Franklin Lakes.

His Excellency, Thomas A Boland, then Archbishop of Newark, selected the parish name and assigned Father Boland to organize the parish.

Father Boland transferred from Our Lady of the Valley, Orange to the newly formed Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The first Mass was held one Sunday in July 1961 in the cafeteria of Ramapo Regional High School. 455 parishioners attended that Sunday service.

Plans for a school building begin and the permanent site for the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament is chosen.

Three Sisters of Saint Joseph are assigned to MBS and take up residence in the convent at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The Pastor of OLPH offered the use of three classrooms in his newly constructed school for the schoolchildren of MBS.

October 12th, Columbus Day, marked the historic double groundbreaking for both the MBS school and convent buildings.

 

For the first time, Christmas Masses were offered in the unfinished auditorium of the new school building. A few days after Christmas, the Sisters moved from the OLPH convent to their new red brick convent located next to the school building.

In June, the parish welcomed Father Joseph M. Doyle as the new pastor after Father Boland was named the pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Roselle.

Father Doyle appointed the first Parish Council, which replaced the Lay Finance Council.

On June 30th, Father Carl Hinrichsen became the third pastor of Most Blessed Sacrament.

Archbishop Gerety granted permission for MBS to proceed with the development phase of building a church.

On Easter sunday, 1979, it is announced at all Masses that the Building Fund Campaign reached its million-dollar goal.

 

In June 1981, the groundbreaking for the new church began.

 

 

On November 21st, the dedication of the church building, officiated by Archbishop Gerety, Father Carl, the two former pastors, and more than two dozen other priests. The ceremony lasted for over two hours and more than 700 parishioners attended.

June 23rd, Father Carl announced at daily Mass that he had been named a Monsignor.

In June, Monsignor Carl retired as pastor and Monsignor Owen Hendry was named the new pastor.

Father Joseph P. O'Brien is installed as the new pastor of MBS.

 

 

 

 

 

He was succeeded in 1999 by Monsignor Thomas J. McDade, Ed.D as pastor and was joined by Father Peter Palmisano as Parochial Vicar.

 

In June, Most Reverend John W. Flesey, who served as rector and spiritual director of Immaculate Conception Seminary became the next pastor of Most Blessed Sacrament Church. In addition to Bishop Flesey, Father Michael Donovan was appointed Parochial Vicar at MBS. In June 2007, Father Renato Bautista joined the Parish staff as the second Parochial Vicar. In the summer of 2009, Father Michael Donovan was appointed the President of DePaul High School and remains in residence at MBS as a weekend assistant. Today, Most Blessed Sacrament (MBS) is a vibrant parish of over 1,670 families with a wonderful future as it enters the third millennium.
